Hi, I'm Kaitlin
she / her / hers
radical doula / empath / earthkeeper / mama
Pregnancy is a time of profound transition. No matter who you are, who you love, or what outcome your pregnancy has, you deserve to be provided with unwavering, non-judgmental, evidence-based support as you move through this new chapter of your life. Pregnancy is not one-size-fits-all. As a full-spectrum doula, I know that every pregnancy is unique and needs to be treated as such.

As a person with multiple inherent privileges, it is my responsibility to acknowledge that many pregnant people with marginalized identities experience further marginalization while trying to navigate pregnancy and birth in our country, and to endeavor to address those inequities in my work. The Liminal Doula is an actively anti-racist, reproductive justice centered business. Black Lives Matter. Love is Love. Pregnant people use all pronouns.

I have trained with Birth Advocacy Doula Trainings and DONA International. I am happy to accept clients anywhere in the NOVA and DMV metropolitan areas.

Why the 'liminal' doula?
The word 'liminal' has two definitions: (1) "relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process" and (2) "occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold."
As a pregnant person, you have left behind your known world and are facing an unknown future; you are making your way over a threshold without really knowing where it will lead. It will be my job to help you navigate this transitional space as it unfolds until you feel secure in your new reality.
That may mean providing evidence-based educational materials, connecting you with additional resources, helping you advocate for yourself with care providers, establishing a support team, and much more. Whatever allows you to feel most capable of making decisions and handling this process in a way that keeps your well-being at its best!
A little more about me...
Doula work came to me slowly over time. I have held many other related jobs that I loved but never felt "quite right". What I didn't know yet was that doula work was both the missing link and the meeting place of all my previous jobs and passions. Social justice, babies, community building - it all led me here!
After having my own child in July of 2020 (any other pandemic babies out there?!), I realized that I don't have to keep all of this passion and knowledge for myself. Many people experiencing pregnancy, abortion, loss, birth, postpartum, or anything in between in our country don't know until after the fact that they are allowed to have their own needs met during that time.

I promise to show up with honesty, transparency, respect, healthy boundaries, and a complete lack of judgment at all times. It is my job to meet you where you are to the best of my ability. If that sounds like a good fit for you, feel free to send me an inquiry!
